Keeping your baby cool in the summer months is essential to prevent overheating.
So if you’re travelling for hours to get to your favourite seaside holiday destination and you’re feeling hot, your little one is likely feeling even hotter!
In this blog, we’ve rounded up our top tips and products to keep your car interior cool and comfortable for your baby.
Crank up the AC
Most modern cars come with powerful air conditioning, so it’s a good idea to ensure that when the temperatures are soaring, you turn up the AC to keep your little one cool in the back of the car.
The best way to circulate cool air throughout your vehicle is by pointing your air vents upwards to allow cold air to travel around the car evenly – you don’t want to freeze your little one either by having the air flowing directly towards them!
Before heading out on a long journey, it’s a good idea to get your aircon checked by booking in a free aircon check at your local Halfords store. During this check, one of our friendly experts will identify any faults or leaks and determine whether you require a refrigerant top-up.
Block out the UV
Block out the sun where you can by installing window shades in the back of your car. This way, you’ll be keeping the rays out of your little ones’ eyes during long journeys. We recommend using the set of two Halfords Roller Sunshades Cloud to block out harmful UV rays and avoid sun damage to your baby’s sensitive skin.
We also recommend window tinting, try using the Simply Window Tint Light Smoke Film to reduce the standing temperature inside your vehicle. With simple fitting instructions, this film is easy to install at home and provides a more permanent solution to your hot car problem by reducing sun glare.
Choose a ventilated car seat
Some car seats are made from more breathable materials than others.
The Maxi-Cosi Pebble 360 i-Size Car Seat is made from breathable foam and fabrics that encourage comfortable air circulation to ensure your baby remains at a healthy temperature while travelling, even on the hottest days of the year.
This car seat also features an extra-large sun canopy and is compatible with the Maxi-Cosi strollers, so you can take your little one straight out of the car and onto their next adventure.
Use a baby mirror
A baby mirror is a handy tool to help you keep an eye on your child without the need to turn around. By using a trusted Halfords baby mirror, you can ensure your baby is cool and comfortable even in a rear-facing car seat, whilst still keeping your focus on the road ahead.
Plan your journeys
The best way to avoid your little one feeling hot and bothered is by planning in short breaks to give them time to stretch outside of their car seat. Look for service stations that have cool indoor facilities and try heading out in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the day’s peak heat. The roads are usually quieter early in the morning too, so you’re much less likely to get stuck in traffic in the uncomfortable, baking heat!
